Make some fun and easy memories with your kids with a family themed dinner night. This Hocus Pocus witch party is great for watching the Halloween movie Hocus Pocus. You can use decorations and tableware you probably already have to create some amazing moments with your family at dinner tonight!
When my kids look back on their childhood, I want them to remember lots of fun family moments. Since we don't have a lot of money to make big memories, I try to make every day a little special.
One of the easiest, funnest, and most memorable traditions we have started is to have fun family dinners. We try to pick a theme for each dinner and use items that are already in the house, or can be found at the dollar stores, to throw fun themed dinner parties.
This week we decided to have dinner and a movie for family night. We chose to watch the movie Hocus Pocus and have a bewitching dinner party.
I started by throwing a green tablecloth on the table and adding a witch's cauldron as the centerpiece.
I found this large cauldron at Goodwill a few years ago and it has been the center of many of my Halloween parties since. I drilled a hole in the upper "corner" to allow for my mist maker's cord to run through the side. I didn't drill at the bottom, because sometimes I've filled up the cauldron bowl with water. Today, I filled a bowl and placed it down inside the cauldron.
I added the Mist Maker into the water and turned it on. I love this Halloween decoration because it uses regular water to allow a flowing mist to roll out of the bowl. Plus it has color changing lights to give the mist an erie glow.
On each side of the witch's cauldron, I added a bunch of candles and funky shaped jars and containers. I found most of these glass jars at garage sales and Goodwill. I try to keep my eyes open for different sized and styled glass jars whenever I'm out. It's easy to build a good sized Witch's apothecary over time if you keep your eyes open.
I had some plastic eyeballs from a Halloween party a few years ago, but it would be a great idea to use Creepy Peepers Peanut Butter Filled Chocolate Eyeballs instead. I have often filled these jars with fun Halloween Shaped Candy
For the tableware, I used my Chalkboard Chargers. I made these a few years ago and have used them too many times to count. They are such a great party staple to have. On top of the chargers are some pumpkin plates that I actually found at Goodwill. The pumpkins are so cute and happy that I knew they had to make an appearance at the party.
The kids always love eating dinner when I rename the food to fit the theme. I've been known to get them to try new foods by disguising what it is with a fun themed name.
It was a fun and simple dinner and we enjoyed watching Hocus Pocus and laughing after. I forgot to take a picture of all the fun treats we had, so you can see our bewitching ideas for the treats here.
I highly recommend trying a family dinner party at your house. As you can see, they really aren't a lot of work and you can use the decorations and tableware that you already have to make it quick and simple and fun!
