I think lately I've let things get a little out of control.  You know how it gets in the summer.  You get to sleep in "late", routines get off, budgets get off...you just aren't as disciplined and in control as during the rest of the year.  Or is it just me?

I'm on a mission since being back home from my summer "vacation" to get "back to the basics".  I'm trying to get life back on track and that includes the budget.

In the past little bit, my grocery budget has gotten a little out of control.  Admittedly, having 4 boys in the house (plus friends) who never stop eating, hasn't helped, but I know there are things I can do to get myself back in control.

And that starts with my price list and shopping sales.  But it's no fun to do it on a scrap piece of paper when I'm planning my shopping list. Instead, I decided to make it pretty and a permanent part of my planner set up.  By keeping this with my calendar each week, I'll be able to look back on the prices throughout the year and see when things go on sale in my area.  This will help me plan and stock up.

To use these, simply print them out on to regular paper.  Depending upon which size planner you have, you can print as a full page printable or a half page printable.  You can select by saving these as picture files and using your computer's print program to select a size.

Now just go through your local sales circulars and find all the things that your family buys on a regular basis.  It doesn't matter if you need them right now or not.  Just write down anything that you may someday, sometime need.  This helps with knowing when to purchase and stock up on items for your family's food storage.

Once you have a list, you can go through some great coupon sites to show you if there are any coupons for the items that you need.  I like to print mine through Coupons.com.  You can see all the things you need and print out several to help with your stockpiles.

Now, you can go through and highlight the items that you actually need to purchase from each store.  If you need cereal this week, you can see which stores have a sale and if you have coupons for that item.  So when you are in that store, you can simply look at the highlighted items to make sure you don't miss the best deals.

I am super excited to be getting back to basics again and getting my life back in line.  School will be here before you know it and once the kids get back, I'm going to hit the ground running.  Because, Christmas will be here before you know it....sigh.
