My Dirty Little Secret and Dare to Share

Hi everyone.  My name is Kim, and I'm a Football Fanatic.  I don't know when it started.

It wasn't like I came from a high school that played football.  I played a little with my guy friends and my brother's friends, but it wasn't a passion.

Until I went to College.  Then it became almost like crack.  I was out there camping with the gang the night season tickets went on sale.  I was sporting all my college gear to each game.  I was standing there screaming at the other team, but not "throwing tortillas on the field."  (That was just weird.)

When I finally graduated from college, I kept up with the games, until my brothers were old enough to play for the high school football team.  By then, I was living back in Texas and enjoying the Friday Night Lights with everyone else in the great state.
I can't believe he was ever that little. (sigh)
Once my little brothers moved on, the Perfectionist started playing.  He only played a few years, and his team was the smallest in the league.  Both in players size and numbers.

But I was still there at every game, yelling, cheering, and ignoring the eye rolls of the fans around me.

When we moved from Indiana to Colorado, all my football contact stopped.  The Perfectionist stopped playing football and I couldn't get my alma maters games until the next day.  (Where's the fun in watching games that way?)

But tonight, it all came back.

Tonight was the Perfectionist's return to high school football.  While the game was away, I was still screaming and cheering and yelling and enjoying the game...except I did it from the comfort of my house where only my kids could roll their eyes at me.

It wasn't the same, but it sure started my fanatic football fan juices flowing.  It was even better that we won 40-13.  I can't wait for more football!  Bring it on...

Did you see some of my blood pumping projects this week?  Okay, maybe that's a slight stretch, but I'm pretty excited about the new look on the blog.  Even I was pretty sick of how drab it was looking.  It's simple, but pretty and colorful.

I've also finally opened the blog up to Sponsors.  Did you see my great new friends? Jamberry and Rachel's Book Nook.  Go check them out and say Hi from me. You'll be glad to get your shopping fix in for some great projects that are great on the budget.

Did you also see my fun Mommy Blogger Parody? It was so much fun to write and illustrate.  Kinda crazy, but if I can find someone else to sing for me, you might see a few more parodies at some point.  They kind of flow around this house constantly, so I'm going to try and capture a few to share with you.

My friend and co-host Pam shared some other exciting news.  I have heard great things about the Target Cartwheel app, but haven't been able to try it since there isn't a Target near me.  But if there was, I would totally be checking out Pam's post about how to save more on Purex with Cartwheel.

After all, I hate to do laundry, and spending a ton of money to do it, is like rubbing salt into my wounds.  No thanks!

So what has gotten your blood pumping this week?  I can't wait to see!

Encouragement Quotes Lunchbox Notes Free Printable

My kids went back to school this past week and for the first time, I have four kids in four different schools.

Being from a family that moves around a bit, my kids have learned that while friends are amazing, the best friends they have are the ones that move with them--their siblings.
Encouragement Quote

So being in four different schools has been a bit difficult for some of them to handle.  They are used to reling on each other for friends, help, and in social situations.

While I was gathering up their school supplies this week, I thought about how I might be able to help and encourage them this year.  Then I thought about all the school lunch notes that I've seen on Pinterest lately.  My kids eat lunch at school, so that wasn't really an option for me to use, but I decided I still wanted to use the idea.
Do the Impossible Encouragement Quote

So I created up some encouraging quotes in the form of lunchbox notes.  I plan on sneaking them into their backpacks during the week and see if they say anything when they find them.  Hopefully it will be a fun (an not uncool) way for them to know I'm thinking of them and to keep moving forward, even when it's hard.

If you want to use these lunchbox notes, I'm sharing the free printable today.  If you just like the quotes, you can find them, and more, shared daily on my Facebook page.  After all, you need to be encouraged and lifted up just as much as your kids do!

Average, Ordinary, Everyday Mommy Blogger Song Parody

When my kids were really little, I would come upon them playing in their rooms singing out their stories.  It was not uncommon to find them singing about the "bad" guys or needing to clean their rooms.

I don't know if it was due to too much Disney when they were little, because I'm certainly not blaming it on the hours of Barney we used to watch.

But now that they are older, we constantly have music BLARING in our house, and it's not rare to find full blown musical numbers break out in the kitchen.

Maybe that's how this song was born or maybe it was too much time sick on the couch last week.  Whatever the reason, I had a lot of fun writing this song and making this video.

Ignore my terrible singing and drawing and enjoy my fun parody of Smash Mouth's Everyday Superhero.

It's Time to Dare to Share

Hi friends!  I have missed you all so much this past week.  I didn't realize how much my sanity and creativity depend upon this blog outlet for me.  Without it this past week, I've been a sick, grumpy mommy with way too many ideas in her head and not enough energy to do any of it.

I am finally on the mend again, and will be back up and crafting next week.  In the meantime, I can't wait to surf around your projects.  You always spark my creativity and crafting excitement.

Did you check out all Pam's Party and Practical Tips this week while I was away? I was inspired by Kyle's homemade pizza post.  I used to make homemade pizza for my kids all the time, but it's been a while since we did this.  I've added it to my Dinner menu next week.  The kids will be so excited.

I was also super excited to check out all the great resources in The Ultimate Blog Resource Library  by He Calls Me Grace.  Have you looked at the great resource it is for bloggers?  I've only made it through a few pages, so am going to spend a little time this weekend looking through a few more.

What have you been up to this week?  I can't wait to see.

Fun Family Tradition with Cookie Friday

I know I've been MIA this week.  I hadn't planned on it, but I've had so many health problems I feel like I should donate my body to science and just get it over with.  I can't say it's been fun.

Especially since this was the first "week" back to school.  The kids actually only had a half day yesterday and today was the first full day of school before heading off to the weekend.  I admit, I have no idea why they do that.  I don't know if it's a tease to us parents, or if it's to ease the kids (or teachers?) back into school slowly.

Whatever the reason, I've been trying to get school supplies shopped for, clothes washed, schedules realigned, and kids excited all while being sick and not able to walk.  It's made it a little challenging to reinstate our family school traditions this week.

One of my favorite family traditions is Cookie Friday.

We like to celebrate the end of the week and start of the weekend by making a big batch of cookies as the kids get home from school on Friday.  This gives us time to spend together relaxing and enjoying too much cookie dough.  I love the time alone with each of the kids since they all get off the bus at different times and they talk non stop about their day at school.

It's one of my favorite times of the whole week.

daisy-flower-chocolate-covered-oreo-cookies

We usually make our family's version of Chocolate chip cookies, but occasionally we throw in some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, some No bake cookies (when I'm willing to share), or even some of my Chocolate Covered Oreos to spice things up and treat the kids.

Follow Kandy Kreations's board Cookie Recipes on Pinterest.

This year, I'm going to start trying some of the cookies from my Pinterest Cookie Recipe board.  I have so many recipes there that I would probably have to make a different cookie recipe every week until Mini Me gets out of school in eight years, and I still might not get to try them all.

Since Dardevil is still dreaming of his Brownie Store, I thought I would suprise him today by trying Urban Bake's brownie and chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Urban Bake's Brookie's Recipe

These are the ingredients needed:
  • BROWNIE COOKIES
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup (5 1/2 tablespoons) unsalted butter
  • 2 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • SOFT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups packed LIGHT brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Check out my Instagram or Twitter feeds to find out how the recipe tastes and works for us.  I'm super excited to give it a go.  Go check out these "Brookie Cookies" to make some yourself.

Do you have any school time family traditions you do? I'd love to hear about them!

Life Moves Pretty Fast so Stop and Dare to Share

It's another week and time to party again!

I feel like I say this every week, but can you believe how fast time is going?

We have had so much rain and so many storms this week that I've loved looking at your projects this week. They have given me so many great ideas and fun stories to enjoy while we've been cooped up inside.   I especially loved all the back to school and first day projects, advice, and printables.  My kids start this week, so I'll definitely be using some of those great hints.

I can't wait to see what you've been up to this week.

Now it's time to PARTY!  So Dare to Share your favorite links!

Young Women Weekly Activity Idea: End of Summer Pool Party

If you haven't heard by now, I've been put in charge of the youngest of the girls in my church group.  We have a small group of girls that have a wide range of interests and personalities.  So coming up with fun ideas that they will want to come to weeknight church is really my goal and struggle.

Since school is about to start next week, we decided to close summer with a splash and go swimming for our activity this week.

End-of-summer-Pool-Party-Invitation-by Kandy Kreations

I've been trying to keep the girls updated and excited with what we are doing each week, so I've started sending out "invites" with all the information they will need for each week's activity.

This week, I made some summer beach ball invites.

I used a bowl to cut out circles in white, red, green, and blue.  Then, I cut the colored card stock into "pizza slices."  I glued the slices onto the white card stock and then used a 3/4 inch hole punch to hide where the slices all met in the middle.

Root-Beer-Float-Sandwich-Cookies

My girls are very much like my kids at home, and are always concerned about food.  So I decided to try a new cookie recipe from my Pinterest Cookie recipe board.  I went with the Root Beer Float cookies from Chocolate Chocolate and More.

They were really easy to make, but I ended up having to increase the baking time from eight to twelve minutes so they weren't a complete dough ball inside.  I'm not sure if that's because of the altitude where I live or something else.  So just be aware if you make them too.

I do suggest doubling the frosting recipe too.  I barely had enough to frost the cookies that turned out okay.  If I had not under cooked the first batch and burned the last batch, I wouldn't have had enough.  And that was with barely putting any filling in the cookies, and I like a lot of filling.

The cookies themselves were pretty good.  The girls loved them.  I felt like I needed a tall glass of anything to drink them down with.  They made me very thirsty.  I don't think these will make it in to my permanent cookie rotation, but they were fun for the end of school summer celebration.

I felt like I should make at least a "token" try and making our activity something more than just partying and fun.  So I found this exercise handout from Little Miss Suzy Q.  It was nice that they were already designed and ready to print and add to the dollar store jump ropes I found.  (Unfortunatly, I did forget these at home, so I didn't end up giving them to the girls.  Sigh.)

The girls ended up having a ball.  They all spent a lot of time playing together, which was something I was thrilled with since they all have such different personalities and don't mix all the time.  It ended up being a great night and a great way to say goodbye to the end of summer.

Back To School Notebook Covers

With the kids going back to school next week, we've been spending a lot of time thinking about notebooks, pens, pencils, and budgets lately.

We are having a bit of a hard time going back and forth between the "cool" notebooks with all the characters and designs, and the cost of such simple, but expensive, additions to the supplies.  Why does adding a spiral or saying to a notebook cause it to almost double in price?  I don't get it.

So we ended up settling on getting the "boring" notebooks and spiral binders, but coming home and sprucing them up.

For the spiral binder, we came home and printed off some coloring pages for Mini Me to decorate and some cool "Magic" and "League of Legends" pictures for the Daredevil.  The Perfectionist wanted something a little more subtle and cool, so we designed up a few fun saying to add to his notebooks.

For the spiral notebooks, we used the Personalized Notebook tutorial that I showed you last year to replace the covers.  For the 3 ring notebook covers, we just printed off the sayings and pictures that we wanted and added them to the front pocket of the notebook.

It was pretty simple and added a little bit of "spice" to the school supplies without any real cost.

Here's a few designs that we made if you want to try it too.

What about you?  What are you doing to keep costs down this school year?  I'd love to hear your suggestions and comments.

Mission Bound Shop

This blog is interrupted today to share with you the most amazing store of work and faith.

I recently read about Austyn, a young man who was baptised into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  You can read about his story here.    He's so excited to share his new found faith that he is anxious to go on a two year mission to share the gospel with others who are looking for the hope, love, and answers that he has found.

The cost of an LDS mission is quite a bit and Austyn wants to raise the money to serve on his own.  Therefore, the Mission Bound Shop was born.

The shop offers stylish t-shirts with uplifting messages.

I can't wait to get the faith one personally.  These will be great gifts for my kids this year to remind them to work for their dreams and to be uplifting in their everyday lives.  I love it!

I hope you'll go check out Mission Bound Shop and support this young man in his work and faith.

How to make a Galilee Bible School Photo Booth

This weekend the youth in our church had a Youth Conference with all the kids in the surrounding area.  The theme of the conference was Return to Galilee

Galilee-Bible-Study-DIY-Photo-Booth
.
The conference was designed to take the youth to a "wedding feast" in Galilee at about the time of Christ's death.  We set up a series of shops for the kids to enjoy the town square before the feast.

Lamp-Booth-at-Return-to-Galilee-Villiage

We had an Oil shop where the kids learned about how olives were pressed.  We had a Lamp shop where the kids used clay to make lamps.  We had a bread store where they could taste pita breads of all types.

Photo-Booth-at-Return-to-Galilee-Villiage

My job was to create a photo booth for the kids to dress up in period clothing and take pictures.

I admit, it was super difficult for me to figure out where I wanted to go with this. I originally wanted to make a large backdrop with the city in the distance, but ultimately decided against it since I wanted the kids to fill up close and personal in the booth.

Photo-Booth-at-Return-to-Galilee-Villiage

I ended up going with a city wall using the castle backdrop that I made earlier this year.  I dressed it up using a tall vase and some "weeds" from my front yard.  Behind the backdrop, I hung a black sheet to disguise the wall behind the booth.

Photo-Booth-at-Return-to-Galilee-Villiage

The clothing was a little more difficult to figure out.  I only had a budget of $20.  So Drama Queen and I went down to Goodwill and bought a bunch of brown, blue, tan, white, and colorful bed sheets.  We then filled up a bag of fabric from their fabric table and walked out the door within our budget.

We ended up cutting the fabric in to three different types of clothing.  We cut long strips to use as the front of their robes.  To these, we sewed ribbon at the top to tie around the back of the neck.

On top of these, we cut out robes with arm holes.  This allowed us to mix and match the pieces to get different looks.

For the girls, we cut and sewed strips of fabric into infinity type scarfs.  These allowed us to place them over the girls' heads and up and over.  The boys got long strips of fabric to use with Dollar Store headbands to complete their look (we already had these.)

Photo-Booth-at-Return-to-Galilee-Villiage

This allowed us to get lots of looks for very little money.  The kids had a ball dressing up and some didn't want to take off their outfits when it was over.

Dare to Share Weekly Linky Party

Here it is another week has gone by.

I still haven't done a whole lot of crafting.  I haven't gotten my printer back up yet, but my computer is finally getting all my favorite programs re-downloaded.  So I feel like I've been doing a lot of online projects this week.

Did you notice the two new pages on the blog?  I added "My Favorite Memes" to share with you my favorite quotes and memes from our Facebook page.  I've been having fun turning my favorite quotes into pretty little "smiles" to uplift your day.

I also started to make fun Facebook Profile pics.  I like to change mine out with the holidays, seasons, my moods, or even the days of the week.  So I created some to share with friends and have been playing with a few more ideas.  They are pretty easy to download and save to your wall if you're looking to add some fun to your pages.

I was super nice this week and "shared" the best cookie recipe of all time, No Bake Cookies.  These are my go-to cookies when I'm feeling down and need a "little" bit of sugar and chocolate to brighten my day.  I usually make and eat them in the closet without anyone around, so you know I really love you guys to share this recipe with you.

I'm hoping that you guys will help me too, if you can.  I am doing a youth activity for the kids in our church and I need some help.  If you are LDS and can answer 50 questions about the mormon culture, I would REALLY, REALLY appreciate your help with our Mormon Family Feud Questionaire.  I'm giving away 10 memberships to our Weekly Candy Wrapper Club as a thank you for those who can help me and complete the survey.

How has your week been?  I loved looking through your posts.  I shared so many of your awesome links through social media last week.  I've been focusing a lot on Facebook and Twitter and have been sharing all your links.  I hope you got a little bit of extra traffic from it.

I can't wait to see what you've been up to this week.

Now it's time to PARTY!  So Dare to Share your favorite links!

How to Host a Party: How to Pick a Time, Date, and Venue

Picking the time and date of your party may seem like a simple part of the party process, but it can actually be a little more complicated and needs to have a little thought put into it.

How-to-Host-A-Party-Picking-A-Time-Date-Venue

Do you want to serve a meal at your party, like having pizza or sandwiches? If so,consider having your party at noon during most kids’ lunch times or during the early evening overlapping dinner time. If you throw your party during these times and don’t offer real (i.e., not only desserts) you could wind up with some grumpy kids or heroes on a sugar high that might make it hard to bring them down to the games of the party.

If you are looking to just have treats and a dessert bar, you might consider having your party during the early afternoon or just after the normal dinner hour. This gives kids the time to eat and not be hungry during your party.

But also consider the age of your party guests. Are they still taking naps? Do they need to be home early for baths and bedtime?

There is a lot that can go into considering your party times, but for your own sake, consider the date you want to have your party. Do you have enough time to set up or take down your party on the date you want? Do you have other activities in the morning or evening that might interfere with your party?

For instance, I once planned a party for 6:00 in the evening on the day I had a church meeting in the morning. Once I was done with the meeting, which of course ran long, I had to finish up a few last minute ideas and grab a few things from the store. I ended up getting to the party venue with only a few minutes to spare and guests were arriving as I was still setting up.

That’s not very much of a wow factor for your guests, nor does it let you mingle with parents as you rush around with your head cut off getting the last minute party projects done. Now I’m not saying you’re like me, but it seems that no matter how far in advance I plan my party, I’m always finishing things up at the last minute. I think it’s just human nature and life as a parent, so take your full schedule into consideration when you pick your party date.

You also need to decide where you are going to have your party.

Are you comfortable having a bunch of kids or adults roaming your house? I have seen some very creative ways to block of parts of the house, but nothing is fool proof and you might end up with guests in areas that you never dreamed they would wander into. Having the party at your home has some great advantages in that it’s easy to set up, to control the climate, and keep an eye on guests.

Hosting a Party Outside
On the other hand, it’s nice to have the party somewhere other than your home so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up the game closet in the basement that never gets organized (because you just know some guest is going to find their way in there!) When you have parties out doors, its nice to be able to not worry about spills on the carpet, there is usually lots of space for guests to spread out and move around, and
usually, there are trash cans there so you don’t need to worry about all the party trash afterwards.

The type of party you are having also can dictate where you have your get together. Having a water party in the house is just not realistic while having a card night at the picnic grounds probably won’t work either.

All of this needs to be taken into account when deciding when and where to have your party so it comes off as the great party you're hoping for

This is a small preview of the content you will receive from the purchase of our Superhero Party eBook.

LDS Family Feud Questionaire

Every week, the youth in my church (LDS Church) have a fun night where they get together and learn homemaking, personal progress skills, and how to have "good, clean" fun.  I am in charge of helping the younger girls with their weekly activity.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP.  WE HAVE OUR 100 ANSWERS AND I'M WORKING TO GET THEM COMPILED INTO A LIST.  IF YOU WANT A COPY OF THE ANSWERS, EITHER LEAVE ME A COMMENT BELOW OR STAY TUNED FOR THE POST AND ACTIVITY ROUND UP.

Mormon-Family-Feud-Questionaire. Can you help me out?
Last night we were planning out the activities we wanted to do for the rest of the year.  In December, we are in charge of the BIG activity with all the youth, both boys and girls.  We decided to do something big and fun to close out our year and enjoy the end of the year excitement.

So we decided to try a LDS Family Feud activity.  After I explained what the Family Feud game was about (boy do I feel old now), the girls were super excited about it and wanted to get started on planning it.

We came up with the questions we wanted to ask and a plan on how to play the game, but now we need YOUR help.  Can you help a Sister out?

We are looking for 100 people to answer 50 questions about popular LDS (Mormon) culture, scriptures, and church activities for our game.  I know that's a lot of questions, but I want to make sure we have enough for 3 games (Beehives against Deacons, MiaMaids against the Teachers, and Laurels against the Priests) and possible a bonus round.

Fun, Free Facebook Cover Photos

Facebook has become a constant in most of our lives.

It's a fun place to find old friends, connect with new companies, and enjoy sharing our lives with family across the country.

I admit, I spend at least an hour a day checking in with my family and friends around the world.  And don't get me started on my Candy Crush addiction.

I like to decorate and change my Facebook Cover Photos like I change the holiday decorations on my fireplace mantel.  I decorate my page with Back to School themes, sports themes, fun quote ideas, and anything that is fun to share.

I've gotten a little carried away in making these Facebook Cover Photos.

So I decided to share them with you.  Maybe you can use them to decorate your page in a fun way.  Feel free to change them out weekly, monthly, or for each holiday.

You can find all my Facebook Cover Photos by clicking that wording.  I've added a few that I've designed to share with you, and I'll keep designing as long as I have the crazy urge to decorate everything in site.

They are pretty easy to add to your Facebook Cover file.  To do that you simply need to:

1. Click on the desired photo.
2. Right click to save the picture to your computer.
3. Log into Facebook.
4. Hover over your Cover photo.
5. Click on "Change Cover"
6. Click on "Upload Photo"
7. Find your saved Cover photo and upload to facebook.
8. Save.

What do you think?  Do you like to update your Facebook cover photo?  What kind of themes do you like to use?

No Bake Cookies

When I'm stressed, when I'm sad, when I can't handle being a mother anymore, I have a tendency to drown my attitude in chocolate.  In chocolate, no bake cookies to be exact.
No-Bake-Cookie-Recipe-by KandyKreations. These are my "go to" #Cookies.

I don't know what it is about this cookie that just seems to make life so much better.

It could be that they are filled with sugar.
It could be that someone secretly sneaks some addictive substance into my cookies...chocolate.

No-Bake-Cookie-Recipe-by KandyKreations. These are my "go to" #Cookies.

I don't know.  But these are definitely my "Go To" cookies.  The ones that I make when no one is home and I can't hide all evidence of making them as I sit in my closet chowing them down.

I'm sure we all have a cookie, or dessert, or treat that solves all of life's problems.  If you don't, please don't tell me.  Just let me live in my little cookie world here.

If you don't have one, I'll let you "share" mine, or at least I'll share the cookie recipe with you.

Start by adding 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of butter, and 2 cups of sugar in a medium sauce pan.  Stir until the sugar and milk are combined.  Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter melts and the mix begins to boil.

Boil cookie ingredients at a rolling boil for 1-3 minutes.  I found that when I live in a moist climate I boil for less than I need to hear in dry, high elevation Colorado.

No-Bake-Cookie-Recipe

Add 3 cups of oats, 1 cup of coconut, and 4 Tablespoons of cocoa powder to a bowl while waiting for mix to boil.  Have 1 teaspoon Vanilla ready to go into the mix too.

How-to-make-No-Bake-Cookies

When your cookies are done boiling, dump dry mixture into the sauce pan.  Add your vanilla and stir well.  It helps to have everything ready to go since your mixture will start to harden not long after it's done boiling.

No-Bake-Cookies-using-a-cookie-scoop

Use a spoon or Cookie Scoop  (I have this Baker's Secret Cookie Dough Scoop from amazon and I love it), scoop your cookie dough into balls on a piece of wax paper.  Allow them to dry and harden at room temperature.  If your boiling time is right, you'll have hard cookies within 15 minutes, if not, it will take a little longer.

My-favorite-cookie-of-all-time-No-bake-cookies

Now enjoy your cookies.  You can share if you want, or eat them in the closet with me.  I won't tell.

What's your favorite cookie or treat to eat when you are stressed?
