We are so excited for summer movie season and all the great shows that are coming!  It seems there are some super ones, some fun ones, and some silly movies all coming to a theater near us.  And as a family, we love to be there for the best of them.

But I don't like to just go to the movies...we don't seem to do anything simple around here.  We like to have dinner parties around our favorites (like the Divergent dinner party we threw) and movie viewing parties like this one.

We are so excited for the movie Pixels, starring Adam Sandler.  (I can't believe I just said that.)  I love the idea of Pac Man, Asteroids, and my other favorite old time video games coming to life.

So tonight we are having a pre-viewing party for our Family Home Evening activity.  We are going to sit around and play old fashioned video games, talk, laugh, and eat some super cute, super fun snacks as a family.

To show you that your family activities don't have to be elaborate to be AMAZING and fun, here's our Pixels Arcade Video Game party.

Video Game Backgrounds as Dessert Table Backdrop

Because we are having a video game party, it was easy to decide to have the party in our living room around the TV.  We have an old headboard as our TV stand, so we cleared out all the "stuff" that we normally have on there. (That certainly needed some spring cleaning even after only living here for 2 months.)

I found some video game backgrounds online showing some of my favorite video games--Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Frogger, Breakout, and Space Invaders.

I had the backgrounds printed out at Office Depot and Walgreens to save myself some ink and get them the proper size to fit the cubbies.  (If you do that, be sure to submit the pictures online and go through Ebates for some cash back and to use the coupons for a cheaper price!)

The kids decided they like the backgrounds so much, they've asked if we could leave them up permanently.  I have to admit I like them too, so for now, they are a new addition to our room.

Video Game party dessert Table treats

Inside each cubby, I added a treat based on the video game background.

I have PacMan Ghost Chocolate Covered Pretzels, Space Invaders Soda Shots, Breakout Popcorn Pieces, and Frogger Graham Cracker Filled Cookie Logs.  (Make sure you go check out those yummy recipes! Especially the Frog Logs...yummmmmmmm!!!)

In the center with the Donkey Kong poster, I put some mini cupcakes on the Donkey Kong barrel cake plate printable.  It made a nice centerpiece and the video game controllers surrounding the treats is a fun touch.

Since I like to have the candy with fun names, but my kids can be picky when they don't know what they are eating, each of the treats had both their names and their fun names on the printable Pac Man table cards.

Party printables for a video game party

Across the top of the treats and below the TV sits the printable PacMan banner.  I admit, I love how fun this turned out and how Pac Man is running from the ghosts while chomping away on all the power pills and cherries he can get.

I guess my inner nerd shines through a little much some days.

Pacman Power Pills Candy Bag Topper Free Printables

And so you know, I'm not perfect.  I had every intention of making these Pac Man power pills candy bag toppers as invites.  I had planned to add the party information to the back of the bag topper so my kids knew we were having another party for Family Home Evening time tonight, but I forgot in the business of life.

But if you decide to try it, just add a little sticker with the party information to the back, or even just write the info on it.  I know it will excite the kids and get them anxious to enjoy the family fun!

My kids are walking by the Video Game party set up and are eyeing the treats with excitement.  They can't wait to have all those party desserts and have an excuse to play video games against Mom and Dad.

What do you do to make your family time stand out?  Are you looking forward to any great movies this summer too? Or am I just a weirdo? (grin)
