This summer our family had a huge family reunion.  During that time, we packed in several family parties including my daughter's Game Night Engagement party and this Love is Sweet 50th Anniversary party.

If I have any talent at all when it comes to throwing parties, it all comes from my mother.  I am so much in awe of her talent and vision.

So of course, I had to share the details of her beautiful 50th Anniversary party.  It had a Love is Sweet theme with a gold and white color scheme.  Everything was pretty much done with some fun online shopping and DIY by our family.

We held our anniversary party in our church's gymnasium.  They already had all the tables and chairs so we didn't have to worry about any of that.

Only about making them beautiful.

We used white tablecloths that went all the way to the floor an used a square gold overlay on top.  The centerpiece was a square mirror with flowers in a vase and two gold glitter tealight holders and candles inside.

The vases came from Hobby Lobby and we used modge podge and gold glitter to make each one of them sparkly.  The flowers were a bunch purchased from Michaels when they were on sale.

I have been setting up and throwing parties for years with these tables and chairs, and the older I get, the more I have come to absolutely hate how the grey of the chairs clashes with all the party.  So we purchased chair covers and have used them for all the parties we have thrown in the past few years.  To match the tables, we also purchased chair sashes in gold.

We had four long tables set up at each of the ends of the room.

The cake table was near the entry and had a long satin tablecloth on it.

The background consisted of a wedding arch wrapped in white tulle and garland flowers and greenery.  Behind that, we used a bulletin board covered in a curtain of white lights.

Hanging from the arch is a large letter B that we covered in gold glitter using modge podge.

The cake was a basic white three-tier cake from Sam's club.  We added various designed gold ribbon around the base of the layers and then gold flowers to decorate.  The topper was a simple gold 50.

The cake sat on a gold cake base from Hobby Lobby and we had matching cupcake stands on each of the ends for white and chocolate cupcakes from Sam's Club.

At the other end of the room, we had a backdrop with curtain lights and a gold tablecloth to hide the seam between the two curtains.

The table had gold satin tablecloths with smaller letters spelling out our family name.  On the tables were various photographs of the couple at their wedding and throughout the 50 years of marriage.

We also used marquee lights from Michaels to put the world "LOVE" on the table.

This is probably the one area that we messed up on.  On one side of the room we had a food table and on the other we had a candy table.  So with the cake, the candy, and the appetizer food, we had entirely too much food.

Over the years, we have collected a lot of different kinds of serving dishes, so we just used a lot of different ones to add appetizer and finger foods since the party was held at the dinner hour.

The finger food table had fruits, cheeses, donuts, meatballs, muffins, rolls, small sandwiches, and other finger foods that we found at Sam's Club and Walmart.

The drink ginger ale soda put inside a lighted drink fountain.

My parents own a small candy store in the local mall where they live.  So it was a no brainer to add a candy buffet table to our anniversary party.

All the candy was gold and white and the containers were purchased on sale at Michaels.

The table had a gold satin tablecloth with a white overlay on top.  Under the overlay, we placed boxes and containers to keep each of the sweets at various heights on the candy table.

In the center of the table we placed a sign saying "Love is Sweet" in gold.

Scattered throughout the treats were gold filament ball lights to help light up the table once the main lights in the room were turned off.  It helped light the candy table from under and gave it a beautiful glow.  Each of the candies were labeled with glitter gold table cards from my party store.

Each candy had a different size and style glass container, but I think my favorite was the Ferrero Roche heart stand.  I just love how it added to the Love is Sweet theme and made them stand out.

The candy boxes were from Oriental Trading.  Each of the unwrapped candy had a small gold candy scoop inside so the guests could fill their boxes with whatever candies they wanted and either take them home or enjoy at their tables.

The candy we had at our candy bar were white chocolate truffles, Reeses peanut butter cups,  Ghiradelli squares, gold wrapped butter mints,  Ferrero Roche, gold butterscotch candy sticks, gold and white sixlets, gold and white gumballs, white Jordan Almonds, M&M candies, and Rolos.

The evening consisted of lots of mingling, laughing, dancing and even a small program telling how the couple met and the story of their life together.

It was a wonderful experience and definitely one of the highlights of our family reunion.
