Chalkboard Menu Charger

The party is getting closer and I'm now working on setting up the luncheon table.

I am going with  maroon red, black, with white accents for the color.

I had this clever idea after seeing the use of chalkboard paint around blog land.
I'm making Chalkboard Chargers on the table at each place setting, and then thought it would be so cool to give them as party favors afterwards.  Each guest could take home the charger and use it as a menu board at home by hanging it on the kitchen wall.  You can write in the center of the plate each day what's for dinner so no more of the dreaded "What's for dinner?"

How fun would that be?

The Chalkboard chargers were really easy to make.

I purchased my chargers at Big Lots in their clearance section.

Then I primed them so the paint would take easier.  It was simple to coat a thin layer on each plate.  I REALLY recommend buying the spray paint nozzle if you can (I found mine down on the bottom shelf of the spray paint isle at Walmart).  It makes spray painting SO much easier and avoids the dreaded spray paint all over your cramped hands!  I LOOOOVVVVEEE it.

Next I sprayed the charger with Chalkboard paint.
I bought mine at Walmart in the spray paint section.  It was cheaper than purchasing at Hobby Lobby or Jo-Anns by several dollars, and it was so much easier to use the spray paint than the bottle of chalkboard paint I had originally bought. (Yea, that got returned.)

Then, I waited for them to dry.  (Don't put them outside on a windy day to dry thinking it will be faster...they just blow away and break.  *Sigh*)

When they are dry, you condition your chalkboard by coloring it in with chalk.  Wipe it away with a soft cloth and you're ready to go!

Now you can write different ideas around the charger for each different party theme if you want.  Pretty versatile.  You can write Happy Easter on them.  Or Happy Birthday.  Or just Have a Great Day!

Or if you want something more permanent, you can cut out a Menu saying using your cutting machine and vinyl to hang on the wall.  Or even, just write with a paint pen around the outside.

I'm excited to have these in my party stash, so don't be surprised if you see them at many more parties!
