I know this post may seem like it doesn't go along with the organization or party theme that I have going on right now on the blog, and it may even seem like it is out of season, but it's not. At least not for me. This Gingerbread House is actually a toaster cover for my kitchen.
You see, when Dear Hubby and I got married and set up our house, I decided to go with an apple theme for my kitchen. I loved the red and green colors and it just kind of fit. Over the years, I found my kitchen was filled with apples, but there was my old, dirty toaster (the same one we received as a wedding gift) just messing with me.
So I designed up an apple toaster cover. And for 17 years, it worked wonderful. It hid our poor little toaster and went along with my fruity theme.
Recently, I've decided I needed a change. I'm tired of apples and the dark colors of my kitchen. So as I organize around the house, I decided to spruce up my kitchen and change it to a "baking and sweets" them with brighter, happier colors.
But that meant my toaster lost it's cover. And since it's not a pretty little thing (I did mention that it was 20 years old now, right?) it needed an update. I debated on several ideas, but then decided to go with a Gingerbread House to keep the sweets and happy feeling in my kitchen.
I couldn't find a plastic canvas pattern to use, so I pulled out my Plastic Canvas Design maker and created my own. I just love how it turned out and thought I would share the pattern with you in case you have a naked, ugly toaster needing a Gingerbread house to hide in.
Here are the basics to the plastic canvas toaster cover directions. You can find the complete, printable Gingerbread House Plastic Canvas Toast Cover pattern HERE. Now, my toaster is a 2 slice boring one that measures xx by xx by xx. So if your toaster is different, you may need to make some adjustments.
*1. Cut out pattern along thread lines.
*2. Stitch x in white.
*3. Fill in remaining pattern with brown using vertical stitch.
*4. Overcast roof edge bottom in white to resemble snow.
*5. Overcast roof edge sides in brown.
*6. Stitch roof sides together at top.
*2. Stitch candy pieces at bottom in colors desired.
*3. Stitch remaining candy canes, window, and fruit slices.
*4. Fill in remaining pattern with brown using vertical square stitch.
*5. Overcast house side top edge in brown.
*6. Stitch each side to one side of house front to form house pattern.
*1. Cut out pattern along thread lines.
*2. Stitch candy pieces at bottom in colors desired. Colors shown are suggestions
*3. Stitch remaining candy canes, windows, fruit slices, taffy piece, and door.
*4. Fill in remaining pattern with brown using vertical square stitch and vertical stitch.
*5. Overcast house side top edge in brown.
*6. Stitch each side to one side of house front to form house pattern.
*7. When all pieces are done, glue roof to top of house lining up centers.
