DIY Hanging Shoe Backdrop

If you are throwing a spa party, a fashion party, a beauty party or any type of Girly Girl party, this DIY hanging shoe backdrop is the perfect statement piece.  It would make a great party photo backdrop or dessert table backdrop, and although it takes some time, it's totally easy and worth it!

Can you ever have too many shoes?

I certainly was debating that this week as I cut out 150 little shoes for this hanging shoe backdrop.  But then I looked at how super cute they were and wish I could have had a few of these shoes in real life.  They just turned out that cute.

And although cutting these shoes was time consuming, (I don't have a Silhouette or Cricket yet...sigh) this project was super cute and made a huge impact on our Shoe dessert table.

So if you are planning to have a Spa Night party, a Beauty Party, a Fashion Party, or any type of Girly Girl party, you definitely need to make one of these Hanging Shoe backdrops for your party decorations.

I started making this shoe backdrop by finding 12 different shoe silhouettes on google.  I then printed them off onto card stock so they measured about 4 inches on the long side.  I used these as my templates.

Then, I used all the scrap paper I have been saving from all my craft projects to cut out 150 shoes.  (I knew being a craft horder would come in handy some day!) Depending upon how large your backdrop is will depend upon how many shoes you'll need to cut to recreate this.

I used a long piece of kite string to make these, but any sturdy string or perhaps even sewing thread would work.  I cut my string about 4 feet long, but again, use it according to how tall your backdrop is and how many shoes you have.

Since the shoes were so lightweight, I added a little weight to the bottom of my string by tieing on a bunch of pony beads.  This helped the shoes to hang a little straighter and not get pulled in the air by someone walking by.

I then spaced out each of the shoes so they were about 3 inches apart.  It wasn't exact but by looping the string back through the top of each of the shoes, I was able to secure them without actually tieing the shoes into spots.  With a little bit of slack, I could adjust the shoe to be shorter or longer on the string.  This allowed for me to play with them when they actually were hung up.

When it was time to hang the backdrop up, I used my DIY PVC pipe base and added a green bed sheet to the top of it.  Then, I secured safety pins to the top of the sheet just on the back of the backdrop.  I spaced the safety pins about 3 inches apart and tied each of the string of shoes.  This way they hung down on the front of the backdrop and made a beautiful addition to my shoe dessert table.

Be sure to check back on Monday to see all the great details about how our Shoe Party turned out.  It was a great evening with the girlfriends and so much fun to enjoy all the shoes.
