50s Sock Hop Party Dessert Table
You know those projects where in your head they looked AMAZING!?!?
This was one of those...I had some cool ideas, but when it came to execution...it didn't quite come out right. Even my beautifully sunlit room didn't cooperate today. SIGH.
But it still turned out good and I'm ready for our Sock Hop birthday party.
I started the table with a turquoise blue tablecloth. I used the same style as I used on the Sock Hop Dinner Table scape. Easy, simple, and cheap. Behind the tablecloth I placed a pale pink backdrop. I purchased this backdrop on clearance at Walmart a few months ago. I thought it would be pretty for "something", and it worked great here.
For the birthday banner I had every intention of using real 45 RPM records. But time and money got away from me. So instead I cut out circles from black card stock and glued letter circles in the party's color turquoise and pink. Then I strung them using thread to minimize the appearance of the banner hanging instrument.
The center of my table is my 50s candy area. In the soda shop jars are candies that were popular during the 1950s.
I have Pixy Stix
In the center of those are personalized Hershey candy bars for the birthday boy,
and chocolate suckers with 50s themed sticker labels on the front.
Behind the chocolate is MORE chocolate.
(Can't have too much at a party if you want to keep the guests happy! *GRIN*)
I made chocolate covered cheesecake bites.
This is one of those ideas that was AWESOME in my head. I wanted the cheesecake bites to look like music notes sitting on the record. It was pretty cool. Well, it didn't turn out quite right in appearance, but darn they taste good!! (Yea, I had to try one to test it out...don't you?)
These were a project that did turn out pretty cool. I made burger cupcakes with cookie fries.
I got the instructions and these great printable containers from Bakerella.
(They turned out so cute I had to share one more picture!)
This is another project that I think turned out as fun as did in my head.
These are chocolate puddings designed to look like old fashioned Soda Shoppe milkshakes.
I bought some smaller Coke bottle glasses at Dollar Tree and filled them with chocolate pudding. Then I sprayed a bunch of cool whip on top and added a cherry (complete with stem) and a bendy straw.
(WARNING on making these: if you use the canned whip cream for the great effect, don't put these out until right before the party...the cream deflates kinda quickly.)
On the other side of the table, I made Chocolate Covered Oreos in the party colors. On top of the oreos I piped chocolate music notes.
I just can't seem to have a Get-together without these being requested. They are THAT good!
YUMMMMMMM!
Another favorite is Jello Jigglers, so I made some in the shape of records.
Then I made record album covers and placed the records inside little crates with "A-Z" tags to look like a record store.
I wanted it to look like the records had been picked over, so the crates are a little larger than needed.

A Sneak Peak
I want you all to meet my little devil, ummm, no my sweet little Daredevil. This is my 10 year old son. He suffers from ADHD pretty badly and as such it causes him to make a lot of rash choices that get him in a little bit of trouble sometimes. It doesn't help that he has a streak of danger in him. He loves to Skateboard and wants me to buy him a 10 foot high half pike ramp. Uhh...No.
Anyway, my little Daredevil has a soft side. He loves to bake. He dreams of opening a Brownie Shop someday. Much like the cupcake stores that are so popular today, he wants to focus entirely on brownies. That's a great idea, except that he is much like me, we like the Basics.
We like the boring old ice cream flavors (my favorite is Chocolate Chip), we don't like hot and spicy (our favorite dinner is plain Enchiladas), and our favorite cookie is our homemade Chocolate Chip. No surprises for us. We like the boring flavors.
So it's been interesting trying to encourage him in his Brownie Shop dream without trying to brake some harsh reality into his life. Instead we try and find new ways to enjoy brownies and shake things up a little, while still enjoying the basic flavor. And....I let him do all the brownie baking in our home.
So yesterday he whipped up these....
and today while he's at school, I'm going to finish them off into the cupcake burgers for tomorrow's party. Should be interesting. A little bit of flavor and a lot of fun...I hope.

Sock Hop Party Favors and Treats
Having fun, unique favors to send home with guests is probably half the fun, and stress, of a party.
Today's post is going to be some ideas of favors for yours Fifties Sock Hop theme.
If you remember, I shared the highlights of Busy Me, Busy with Three's Sock Hop birthday party HERE where she made Cd's for each of the guests with fifties music on it. Then, she covered the CD with a sticker that looked like a record. Very clever.
At my daughter's Rocking Birthday party that I apparently never blogged about, we made these records for each of the girls to take home. We simply spray painted a record gold. Then at the start of the party, I took a picture of all the girls together. I printed it out and xyroned it into a sticker. Then each of the girls signed them and they all took one home.
Make a bag of Old Fashioned candy from the 1950s and give to each guest. A few candies that are still around include: Jr. Mints, Fireballs, Bit-o-Honey, Bottle Caps, Candy Buttons, Candy Necklaces, Dots, Dubble Bubble, Fun Dip, Gobstoppers, Good & Plenty, Lemon Heads, Necco, Pixy Stix, Razzles, Pop Rocks, Root Beer Barrels, Sweet Tarts, Tootsie Rolls, and Zots.
What about sending each of the kids home with vintage toys? Give each one their own Hoola Hoop or Frisbee or even a set of Paper Dolls. I think we are going to have Paper Dolls at our party, and it was difficult to find some good sets around the web, so here are a few places that have old fashioned printable paper doll sets.
How about sending each guest with a candy bar personalized to your party theme and special guests? We are going to do this for our party favors. (Warning: party store plug) You can check out lots of different Sock Hop party favors from our Home Store including notebooks, lollipops, chocolate suckers, candy bars, and more.
50s Bingo Game Printable
Every good party needs a good game to enjoy. You can't just sit around and eat all day...or at least that's what I keep telling myself. (Even if I'm wrong, you'll need to agree with me here, or my waistline will never forgive me.)
After hours of searching graphics, designing bingo cards, and planning how to make this work, I found 50 graphics that had to do with the 1950s. Then..I decided to share this Bingo party printable with you!
Go HERE to purchase($5.00) and download the entire printable set.
Once you've downloaded it, it's very simple to assemble and play.
There are 30 Bingo cards in 15 pages (2 to a page) and 50 graphic piece circles (25 on each page). They come as a JPEG file for you to simply print out.
Once you print them out, you can cut the cards out. The discs are 1.25 inch circles so if you're lucky enough to have that size hole punch, you can use that. If you don't want to go any further, you can just play now.
If you want to make the Bingo piece graphic tabs last a little longer than one or two playings. You can add them to wooden discs that you can pick up at any local craft store (I think even Walmart has them.)
Since there are 50 printable tags, I bought 2 big bags. Then I spray painted them blue. You can then use your Xyron or Modge Podge to put each graphic onto the wooden disc.
I'm not sure yet if I'm going to put the graphic tabs into a cute bag that I'll make, or just a bowl. We'll see how creative I get.
In the meantime, just place the graphic discs into a container and draw them out. Then, wait for a fun game of BINGO!
50s Sock Hop Diner Tablescape
Our Sock Hop party plans continue on.
Today, I'm showing you my Fifties Dinner Tablescape.
I kept my turquoise and hot pink color that's running through my Sock Hop party.
I couldn't find a cheap tablecloth in a matching color, so I hit the bed sheet section at Walmart. They have colored sheets, and if you purchase the Twin size flat sheet, you can get a tablecloth for only $4.00.
I fell in love with the Black and White checkered flooring of the old diners, so I made a matching table runner to go down the center of my dinner table.
To make that, I simply cut 4 inch squares of black and white card stock and taped them together on the underside into a diagonal square pattern. Turned out CUTE!
I used the Juke box candy bouquet that I made HERE as the centerpiece of my table.
I cut out music notes with my Craft Robo onto black card stock and hung them from the chandelier above my table. It hangs right over the Jukebox so it kind of looks like you can actually see the music playing.
I found these great ceramic Salt and Pepper shakers at Hallmark. I just LOVE them!
They look like old fashioned Ketchup and Mustard containers so they fit perfectly with the 50s Diner Theme.
For the place settings, I bought some old Coca Cola mugs from Dollar Tree. (Gotta love that store for cheap party accessories!)
For each place setting, I used a large record I bought from my local Goodwill as a plate charger.
I found these Hot Pink plates at the party section of Walmart. (Hobby Lobby has a set that I REALLY wanted, but at 4.00 each, I just couldn't justify it...especially since this wasn't a 40% off coupon week.)
I finished off my place setting with silverware and my napkins and napkin rings.
I REALLY love the way the whole thing worked out.
