Moore Oklahoma Tornado Donations

The Wizard of Oz is a wonderful movie about a young girl who is taken to the amazing land of Oz by a tornado.  I don't know about you, but the movie is so engaging, that I have never thought about the destruction left behind in a tornado so strong to pick up your house and take you to another land.

But I'm sure the residents of Moore, Oklahoma are feeling it now.  After seeing all the devastation and ruin on the TV the last few days, my heart is aching for these families.  So many of them have lost loved ones, lost valuables, and everything in their world is turned upside down.

I have a small inkling of what they are going through after having personally been a victim of Mother Nature in the Midwest floods a few years ago.  It took us years to recover from the water that rushed into our home destroying everything in it's path.  But at least our mess was contained...we could pick through our trash and see the waterlogged remnants of our home.

The victims of the Moore tornado have nothing but a pile of rubble.

My heart breaks for them.  And I need to pay back all those who helped us so much through our recovery.  So for the rest of the month, I will donate 1/2 of the proceeds of any purchase made through our website.

If you've been thinking about purchasing a name plaque for a loved one's birthday, or some chocolate covered Oreos for a summer party, or one of our sweet digital files, consider doing it now.

Help out these grieving families and give yourself a sweet treat as a reward.

Follow The Yellow Brick Road To Some Etsy Shopping

With graduation right around the corner, I am starting on a new party theme for some of my favorite Graduates.  One of them wanted something "different" but fun.  Since we had just gone to see the traveling version of Broadway's Wicked, I thought it would be fun to go with a Wizard of Oz theme.  Something along the lines of "follow YOUR yellow brick road" or "your off to see the Wizard" or such.  I think with Dorothy trying to find her path, that it makes lots of sense to travel that path as a Graduate too.

To get started, here are a few party ideas from the small shops of Etsy.

Be Back Soon...

Sorry for the unexpected absence from the blog...

Last weekend my father collapsed at work and started seizing.  He was rushed to the hospital where they fought to stabilize him.  Nevertheless....we all have been freaking out, worrying, and praying this week.

He's doing much better now, although, they have no idea what happened or why.  So I'll be back next week and starting on some new projects.

Thanks for your prayers and patience this week!

If Moms Were Flowers Candy Topper Printable

Mother's Day is less than a week away now.  If you've already gotten your mother a gift, I'm so impressed.  I'm still out searching for the perfect Mother's day gift for my mom.  When you have as AMAZING a mom as I do, it's hard to find just the right gift that tells her what a wonderful, caring, helpful, sweet, supportive woman she is.

I did come up with another sweet candy topper printable just for Mother's day if you're still looking for a quick gift for a Mom or girlfriend in your life.

I only made the size for the 3x4 baggies from Walmart or craft stores.  It will fit some small flower candies or some flower shaped cookies.  I put our flower chocolate covered oreos in my bags.  I think it will make a really cute gift for some of my church friends.

Here's the printable.  Just right click and save it to your computer.  If you need more detailed instructions, you can check out our step by steps on the Elf Kisses free candy topper, but it's really pretty easy.

Good luck and let me know if you end up using it this year!

10 Flower Cake Pop Ideas

Mother's Day is less than 2 weeks away.  Have you figured out what you are going to give your mom yet?  I made my Mother-in-Law a Werther's Sugar Free Candy Bouquet last weekend, but I've been a little stuck with what to give my mom and sisters.  My mom is to the point where she really doesn't want more stuff to fill her house, so that makes everything a little harder.

But my sisters are easy.  I don't think one of them would not appreciate flowers for Mother's Day...especially edible cake pop flowers!  Look at this beautiful selection of flower cake pops I found.  Would your mom like any of these?

1. Daffodil Cake Pops by Bake at 350.

2. Daisy Cake Pops by The Pink Momma.

3. Rose Cake Pops by Sweet Empire.

4. Flower Cake Pops by A Little Bit Of Lovely.

5. Flower Cake Pops by My Man's Belly.

6. Rose Cake Pops by My Little Cake Room.

7. Mom Flower Cake Pops by Bakerella.

8. May Flowers Mini Cake Pops by Diary of a Mad Hausfrau.

9. Flower Cake Pops by Parties for Pennies.

What Does It Take to be a Good Mom?

I have a confession to make.
While I normally hate reality TV, I have this guilty obsession.
When the store is quiet and there is no one around to see, I have been sucked into the show Wife Swap.

It's terrible, I know.  Like what I imagine a train wreck would be like...

Seriously, don't these people know the producers are going to find some family that is the polar opposite of everything that they think, feel, and believe and throw them into that household?  And yet they always seem shocked.  Shocked with how the other "half" lives.

Because seriously, most normal families never live like any of that...

I know there are pros and cons to all parenting styles and each child is different, but with the celebration of Mothers day coming, I'm asking What does it take to be a good mom?

I admit that I am a little lax when it comes to my parenting style sometimes.  I feel like I fall in the middle of most of these Extremes that I see.  Dear Hubby feels like I'm a bit of a Push Over sometimes.  My kids say I'm the best mother EVER (no, there's no bribery there..)

And sometimes I feel like all of the above and somewhere between.

For I let my kids make messes....
I let them get away with things...
Having fun
I let my kids play....we are super silly sometimes.
But we are also serious at times.

I feel like there is a fine line between letting kids be kids and teaching them to be men and women you like and can count on.  There's a time for both.

As you think about your own mother this mother's day and your own parenting, are there things that you would do again?  Are there things you would change and try over?

The thing I like the most about Wife Swap is that in the end, most of the families learn something from each other...no matter how small it may be.  I like to think that we all have ways that we can be better and we can all learn from each other.

There is no way to be a perfect mother but a million ways to be a good one.
What do you think?
