Every fall, I start getting yelled at to make Caramel Apples.  I don't know if it's the cool crisp air, or the fall festivals reminding us of treats from our youth, or the apples falling from their trees, but it seems to be a craving that hits about this time every year.

Problem is...I don't like caramel.
It makes it very hard to want caramel apples, or to play in the caramel to make treats.

Caramel Apple Wraps

But when I was at Walmart the other day, I found these Caramel Apple wraps (you can find the Concord Caramel Apple Wrap  at Amazon too).  As easy as these looked, I knew I had to at least give them a try.

And they were super easy.  The caramel wraps come with 5 sheets to a package and are already cut into circles for you.  Each circle just needs to be warmed up in the microwave for 10 seconds on 20 percent power.

Then you can just lay the caramel down over the apples and pull it to fit the edges.
SO EASY!

To make the apples into skulls, I drew a pair of eyes and a nose on the apple using melted chocolate.  You will want to make these pretty big so when the rest of the chocolate covers the apple, they don't get lost. Going over sized is definitely better than undersized for effect.

Now just take some melted chocolate  and spoon it over the top of the apple and around the caramel to make your skull.

I was surprised with how easy the whole project was and how fun it turned out! And these shriveled head skull chocolate caramel apples will be a perfect addition to my Witch's Cupboard dessert table for Halloween.

Dare to Share Saturday

(cue music)
"This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or Treat til the neighbors gonna die of fright..."

It's Halloween!

We had our annual Halloween dinner party last night.  It seems like everything just kept getting in the way for us to actually do it.  But it turned out a lot of fun and we enjoyed all the Candy Corn (even those of us who don't actually like Candy corn, had lots of fun.)  Be sure to check it out if you want to have a fun Halloween dinner party this weekend.

Now it's time to turn our thoughts to actually Trick or Treating.  Due to Hurricane Matthew, we ended up having to cancel our Halloween Trunk or Treat Fall Festival that I've been planning for months (sad sigh everyone.)  So now we need to find somewhere else to go and have fun.

The kids have narrowed down their costume choices and we went to Goodwill and got most of the necessities, but I haven't decided if I still want to dress up or not this year.  So I'm looking for something easy and fun.

I hope you guys have some suggestions, because I'm a little overwhelmed with things going on this weekend and have no time  to do much of anything.  So I hope you'll forgive my lack of features this week.  I promise I'll get back on the ball next week.

In the meantime, I can't wait to see what you've been up to this week!

Halloween is almost here.  You probably have all your decorations up, your kids' costumes are ready, and you have your family fun planned out.  But do you have your Trick or Treat candy ready?

Now maybe you are going to just go get a bag of candy from the store.  You know, some of that stuff that no one in the house will eat, but it's cheap and the kids won't care.  But what happens when you have kids stop by that you know?  Or what if you are going to a trunk or treat and want to give some fun candy?  Or what about that Halloween party that your kids just told you they need candy for?

Using a bag of Hershey's Miniatures Assortment, lay the square with the joke question over the front of the mini wrapper (where it has the name.)  Fold over the top area (where the background is) and then fold the bottom area over the bar on top of the folded background top piece.  Add a little bit of glue to the back side or a piece of tape and secure the mini candy bar wrapper closed.

Decorate for your Halloween party with a fun and easy Candy Corn kiss ball.  These quick directions will show you step by step how to turn your Halloween decorations from cool to AWESOME-SAUCE.
This weekend is the perfect time for a Halloween dinner party.  Don't you think?

I know that some of the Trunk or Treat and community festivals are this week, but for the most part, everything doesn't really kick off until next weekend and then it's ALL weekend.  I know of at least 5 local Trunk or Treat activities going on next Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend seems to be the calm before the storm.  You can sit down and enjoy the Halloween fun with your family and friends in a fun dinner party or movie watching party.

So I've been setting my table up while the kids are at school, trying to decide if I needed something "more" to take it from cool to AWESOME-SAUCE.

I definitely  needed something a little more.  So I ran to Walmart this morning after dropping the kids off to school and picked up a few supplies to make some Candy Corn kissing balls for my Halloween table decorations.

Once I got the hang of it, they were super easy to do and I love how cute they turned out.

To make your own Candy Corn Kissing Ball Halloween Decoration, you'll need:

  • Bag of Candy Corn (I used about 2/3 of a 17 ounce Candy Corn bag from Walmart)
  • Small Taper Candle Holder (found at Dollar Tree)
  • 3 inch Styrofoam Ball
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Yellow or matching 3/4 inch ribbon

Use your glue gun to secure your Styrofoam ball to the top of the candle holder.  This will keep the ball steady and help you keep the center of the kissing ball even and pretty.

Lay the secured candle holder and styrofoam ball down on your table and start glueing the candy corn to the bottom of the ball so it lays up next to the candle holder.  It was easiest to put a large glob of melted glue on the top half of the back side of the candy corn.

Be careful because the candy corn is fragile so you want to hold it up to the ball and let the glue grab the Styrofoam and hold to secure.  Don't push the candy corn up against the ball because it may break.

Once the bottom layer is secured and dry, do it again, securing the candy corn in a layer directly above the candy corn that you just glued.

Repeat the pattern until you get to the very top.

Glue one single candy corn to the top of the kissing ball to cover the center spot of Styrofoam that is showing.

Using a matching ribbon to your candy corn or Halloween party color scheme, tie a pretty bow to the base of the candle stick.

Now place your Candy Corn Kissing ball on your table.  Add your other Candy Corn Halloween party elements and have a fun Halloween dinner party tonight!

5 No More Candy Signs

There's not much sadder than being out of candy on Halloween night. Let the kids down gently with these five "No More Candy" Halloween signs.

When I was a child, you didn't go trick or treating at a house if the porch light was off.  It was the RULE.  I guess I thought everyone knew that.  But when I got older, even after the porch light was turned off, I found we had trick or treaters coming to our door well into the night.  It was the most amazing thing to me.  Didn't they know?

This year, the kids will know.  This year, I'm making one of these signs to let them know that we're out of candy and they can stop ringing the doorbell.  After all, are my kids the ONLY kids that still have some kind of bedtime on Halloween??

Princess Bride Quote Plate Insert Printable Party Decorations

Use your favorite Princess Bride quotes to decorate for your next dinner party.  These easy printables can turn a boring set of plates into a spectacular party decoration and dinner table place setting.  Plus, you'll be quoting your favorite Princess Bride movie quotes all night!

One of the best parts of the Princess Bride movie is the unforgettable one liner quotes.  My family and I have been quoting them for years.  I can't tell you how many eye rolls I've gotten from my kids as I tell them to "have fun storming the castle" as they climb out of the car to go to school.

Or of course, everything is "inconceivable!"  Even if that word doesn't mean what we think it means.

So of course, when it was time to start decorating for our Princess Bride party, we had to include some of our favorite Princess Bride quotes as party decorations.

The easiest way to do this and to help decorate the dinner table and place settings was to create Princess Bride Quote plate inserts.

If you haven't been around our blog much, this is one of my favorite ways to dress up and personalize a place setting for a dinner party.  I purchased a bunch of square glass plates from Dollar Tree and use them for so much of my party planning.

"This is true love. You think this happens every day?" Movie quote from the Princess Bride

To use these printable party decorations, simply right click on the plate insert picture you want to use.  Save the JPG picture file to your computer.  Then use your computer's print program to print the picture on to card stock.

Cut out around the square picture, and use a little bit of tape or glue to secure the plate insert to the bottom side of your clear, glass plates.  That way you can see the picture quote, but it won't interfear with your dinner.

When you are done with dinner, just remove the plate insert and throw it away.  You can then clean the plates as usual and use them for a party decoration at your next dinner party.

"Good night Wesley. Good work, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning." Movie quote from the Princess Bride

It's an easy and cheap way to have one set of plates decorate for just about any party theme.  If you can't find the theme for plate inserts here on the blog, you can always create your own, or use wrapping paper, scrap paper, or even your kid's coloring pages!

Here are 12 of my favorite Quotes from the Princess Bride to use as plate inserts and party decorations for your Princess Bride party.  You can download them individually to get the ones that you want, or download all 12 in a zip file here.

Plate inserts are versatile, easy, and can be personalized to your party.

I can't wait to use these Princess Bride quotes and have my guests quoting some of my favorite Princess Bride movie lines all through dinner.

3 Halloween Costume Ideas and Dare to Share Saturday

This week was a rough one. We lost power for several days due to Hurricane Matthew and the kids have been out of school while the city cleans up and tries to get back to normal.

Hurricane Mathew was a tough one. You'd think after all the natural disasters we've been through in the last few years that this would have been no problem. Yet they all seem to have their own challenges and lessons learned.

Now we are working to get life back to normal and the kids are looking at Halloween only a few days away. Guess we'd better get our Halloween costumes and Trunk or Treat design ready.

Thanks for giving us so many ideas at last week's Dare tonShare Linky party. If you missed it, here are 3 Halloween costumes that were shared.

It seems the last few years that my family has become a magnet for Natural Disasters.  I'm not sure why that is, but it's gotten a little crazy.

We were flooded in the Midwest floods in 2011 and lost our house.  We were threatened with the Colorado fires in 2013 and lost our business.  And now, we've been hit by Hurricane Matthew.

I know it could have been worse.  I'm so very grateful for my family's heath and safety during all this, but I admit, what ever lesson the Lord is trying to teach me, I wish I'd go ahead and learn it already.  Yikes.

But since going through this latest natural disaster wasn't in the schedule or budget, I have put everything in my Printables Shop on sale for the next week.  So if you have been eyeing one of our bingo games, candy bar printables, or candy bag toppers, please consider purchasing them now while they are 50 percent off.

Our Candy Bar Wrapper membership club is also on sale if you've been eyeing any of the candy bar wrappers that are available exclusively to club members.

And to help you and future customers, I'm now offering a free candy bar wrapper if you'll leave me a review of your purchase.
