As parents, we want to give our children everything.  We want to give them the opportunities, the gifts, the experiences, the lessons that we may never have had or that will help them to grow to their greatest potential.

I know that no matter how badly I screw up in everything I do, if I can raise good kids who become meaningful adults, then my life will have been worth something.

As I go into the Christmas season, I admit that I too often focus on what I can give my kids for the holidays.  I want the decorations to be perfect.  I want the parties to be fun.  I want the holidays to be magical.

Too often, I let slide the one gift that I can give and teach them at the holidays.  I need to remember to teach them to look outside their lives and their circles to see the people in need around them.  I need to teach them to be the light at Christmas.

This Christmas season, I, along with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, are pledging to be the light.

Every day from the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas, my kids and I are going to find at least one way to serve the people around us.  We are going to look outside of ourselves and lift others up so we can remember the true meaning of Christmas.  We are going to help bring a little bit of Christ back to Christmas.

Because, I know that the Kandy Kreations household, and America, need a little more Christ and a little more light.

If you want to join in, you can print out one of these three calendars to remind you to serve every day.  The Be The Light Campaign only goes from December 1 to the 25, but I made my calendars for a whole month since I wanted my kids to have the full 30 days of experiences.  When you have done your service, place a little sticker, a star, or a smiley face in the calendar box to show that you let your light shine that day.

If you need a few ideas, starting December 1 (the Worldwide day of Service), you can find service ideas here to help you.

Here are some other service ideas that you can use:
