Keep Calm and Eat On Watermelon Printable

I've never been a huge fan of the Keep Calm printables.  They seem to be Everywhere these days.  But every now and then, you see a really cute one that just fits the mood, or the party.  I decided I needed to get into the Watermelon spirit more and decided to make a Keep Calm and Eat on printable.

I started with a Watermelon background that I designed up and then used the background to make a Watermelon alphabet font using the tutorial I showed you HERE.  I put them all together and got my Keep Calm and Eat on Watermelon picture.

I think it fits the summer and my Watermelon BBQ theme perfectly.  Mini Me was super excited when he got home last night and discovered all the watermelon projects we have going on.  With all the Watermelon flavored treats I'm planning to make this week, we will be Eating On in yummy fashion.

I'm so glad to have my family back this week.  After two weeks apart, I've really missed them.  Now with summer here, it's the perfect time to get out and enjoy a few Lawn games with the family and friends.  I'm looking forward to creating a few of these for our Watermelon BBQ picnic for Mini Me's birthday next week.

Watermelon Cakes Galore...

I don't know when Smash cakes became popular.  I'd never heard of them before Drama Queen turned one, but Dear Hubby says his family used to give each kid their very own cake to eat on their birthday, so we started the tradition too.  Some 17 years later, I find the tradition of Smash cakes pretty cool.

Since Mini Me is having a Watermelon BBQ picnic, I decided to look for some ideas for a Watermelon smash cake to take to the bakers.

Instead, I found Cake Wrecks, A Seedy Celebration.

I LOVE Cake Wrecks.  If you haven't heard of them, you HAVE to go check it out.  It's a great blog showing the "seeder" (catch that slight pun?) side of Professional cake decorating.  I can't believe they pay people to make some of these cakes.

And after looking at how scary some of these Watermelon ones turned out, I just may have to make my own....

Beauty Coupons For Your Weekend Party Plans

Do you have any fun plans for this weekend?  With the family still out of town, I'm not sure what I've got planned.  It's a little sad after the excitement of Indpendence Day activities and having Memorial Day parties still so far away.  Seems like a bit of a let down.

Watermelon Cupcake Wrapper Printable

I got a call this week from my vacationing family that Dear Hubby had an accident and was in the Emergency Room.  It was a little scary and just plain WRONG to be so far away when my children were sobbing into the phone and hubby was being carted off in an ambulance.  We were fortunate in that it wasn't bad and they were visiting their grandparents so they weren't alone for long.

Thanks to this hiccup in our week, I've been a little on edge and stressed. Since I can't do anything for them right now and have to rely on family to take care of everything, I've been trying to keep busy here.  I've spent evenings cleaning the laundry room and hall closet (really, who does that?) and days keeping busy at the store with projects and plans.

Which ended up being a good thing since these cupcake wrappers took me several days to figure out how to make.  I guess I just haven't totally figured out GIMP yet and how to do certain things.  After making these, I'll be honest, I'm still not a hundred percent sure how I did it, but I got these Watermelon Cupcake wrappers done and they look pretty awesome, if I say so myself...and since I am...

The printable cupcake wrappers are made to look like a slice of watermelon with a green and white rind and a red seeded top.  The wrappers also have a slot and groove design so you can wrap them around your cupcake and slide the groove in to hold them...or if you're lazy, you can just cut the groove off and tape them together.  (With so many cupcakes planned, I will probably just end up doing that myself.)

On a few of the cupcakes I got a little crazy and tried to make a M&M ant crawling across the cupcake.  After all, what's a picnic or BBQ without a few ants?  And the only ants that I invite will be chocolate!

The ants were made with 2 brown peanut M&Ms placed close together on the top of the cupcake.  Then I added a dark chocolate M&M for the head. (The regular M&Ms were a different shade of brown...who knew?)  To make the legs, I piped some melted milk chocolate onto a piece of wax paper into little "L" shapes and let it harden.  Then I just laid them against the ant body for a chocolate ant treat.

Summer Watermelon BBQ Shopping

The family is all off at a Family Reunion this week.  The Perfectionist and I stayed home due to work.  It's been a little sad, lonely, and quiet being without the crowds at home.  I love that I still get arguments via text message, but Dear Hubby is doing his best to let me enjoy my "peace."

Mini Me's birthday is coming up very quickly and starting plans without him has really been interesting.  He has been through every party idea on the planet in the past year.  Most of them were only a few days long in the planning and I did have to Nix the Assassin theme.  (Not even sure where that one came from, but I just didn't think that would go over well with the other moms.)

He finally decided to go with a Watermelon BBQ picnic.  I think he would be thrilled with nothing but Watermelon served at his party, but fortunatly we won a Morning Star Farms Grilling party, so we plan to combine the two for a fun outdoor summer birthday party.

So I've been off searching the small businesses of Etsy to find some great party ideas for our summer watermelon party.
