Color My World Thank You Gift
Give your favorite teacher a great Back to School gift, Teacher appreciation gift, or End of School gift with this cute Color My World thank you gift. There's instructions for the DIY gift, a free printable, as well as an excuse to snag a few pieces of candy while you make it.
I know ALOT of parents who give gifts to their kids' teachers on the first day of school as a Welcome Back gift or as a Break The Ice gift. I admit, I don't do that myself, but think it's pretty smart to "sweeten" up the teacher before school begins...I know ALOT of parents who give gifts to their kids' teachers on the first day of school as a Welcome Back gift or as a Break The Ice gift. I admit, I don't do that myself, but think it's pretty smart to "sweeten" up the teacher before school begins...
Since my kids will be moving 2 months into school, I wanted to make a quick Back to School gift to thank the teacher for their help and love for the short time we are here.
Using my nifty Smooth Edge Can Opener
, I took off the sharp edges of the tuna can and cleaned it out.
I started gluing crayons around the edge of the can.
I found the best way was to place a little bit of glue on the bottom half of the crayon at the back where the paper edges come together. (Can you tell that's what I'm doing? weird picture!)
Once all the crayons were glued around the edge (I actually only ended up using 35 crayons total), I used some of this fun polka dot ribbon that I bought at Walmart.
Using about 14 inches of the ribbon, I glued it around the crayons to help hold them together if anything gets bumped...and to add a pop of white to enhance the color to the gift.
I then took my 2-Inch Scallop Circle Paper Punch
to a scrap piece of yellow paper I had (I knew there was a reason I kept all that paper) and then punched out the saying using a 1 1/2 inch Circle Punch
. I glued the two together to the front of the ribbon where the edges overlapped.
I finished off the gift by adding a bag of candy to the center of the crayon ring.
Now I have a cute, cheap gift for all the teachers! It would also be a great end of school teacher gift or Christmas gift...in fact I may reuse it when I get to our new school. After all who doesn't need more candy in a cute container? And by buying the crayons on sale during the Back to School shopping, it's a cheap gift to make too!
Here's the printable if you want to try! I hope you'll share your creations, I'd love to see if you make this too.
Back to Hogwarts Book Wreath
Go back to school with all your textbooks and necessities with this Hogwarts book wreath! This wreath would be a great addition to any Harry Potter party as it's magically easy to put together and so much fun too.
Run to Diagon Alley, grab your Hogwarts text books, and prepare your wand for another year back to school.
We have been preparing for our annual Back to School party here for the past few weeks and are almost ready to show you the Harry Potter themed dinner party. But first I needed to share with you our front door wreath in all it's textbook glory.
When I first had the idea for making our party theme Back to Hogwarts this year, the idea for a wreath made from the Hogwarts textbooks came to mind. I've been playing around with it for three weeks now and it never quite came together like it did in my head. (Don't you just hate that?)
I had given up on the idea, until I was hit with inspiration in the middle of the night. (Isn't that always how it is?)
I decided to simplify the book wreath and to make it lighter so I could fit all the textbooks every Hogwarts student needs right on the door for everyone to see.
And I do love how it turned out! What do you think?
And after all the fun, it really was super simple to make.
I used a roll of large Christmas ribbon I had leftover and wrapped it around the wreath form to hide the cardboard and give the wreath the Gryffindor colors.
I think that deciding what size to make the textbooks was the hardest part of the whole project. I ended up cutting a large sheet of Styrofoam into 2 inch by 3 inch rectangles.
Once I knew what size I wanted my books to be, I went over to Pinterest and searched up some printable Harry Potter textbook covers. There are a lot there, so you can pick and choose which ones you want.
I saved the covers, resized them to fit my pages, and then printed them out. The paper glued pretty easily around the Styrofoam pages to create the Hogwarts textbooks.
Didn't they turn out so cool? I am totally in love! Thanks to all the talented artists who shared the talents in making these book covers.
I really recommend laying out the books on the wreath to make sure they fit nicely and the color placement looks good before glueing them to the wreath form. Once you have it looking good, go ahead and glue the books down.
To make the wreath a little more fun, I created little pennant banners with the words "Hogwarts Bound" in a Harry Potter font. I glued the pennant pieces to some red and gold ribbon in the center of my wreath.
Now my Harry Potter wreath is hanging on my front door making my kids' return to school a little more magical and fun as they can pretend we are off to Hogwarts!
