Denver Bronco Logo Decorative Plate DIY

Make your own NFL Denver Bronco Logo plates with a few minutes of time and some Sharpie paint pens.  You'll be the MVP of your football party.  This quick and easy plate DIY is fun and unique and gives you a Bronco logo to be proud of.

It's been a while since I made any new decorative plates for a party, but when I started working on our Bronco football party, I knew I needed to add some to the dessert table to add some sweet flair.

But since I have absolutely NO artistic ability at all, I was worried how to make the bronco logo look realistic and cool.  If you have a silhouette or cutting machine, this would be super easy, but since I am one of the few crafters left that doesn't have one, this is an old fashioned way to make the Bronco logo decorative plate.

I started by finding the Broncos logo on the web.  I had to measure my plate to see how big to make the logo.  I printed out the bronco head to be about 6 inches by 3 1/2 inches.  Then I cut it out to use as a template.

I used the bronco logo as a template to trace around in the center of my plate using Sharpie Paint Markers.

After I had the base done, I went back and cut up my logo into pieces with the center lines and the horse's mane so I could trace them.  I did freestyle the eyes, ear, and nose since they weren't too difficult.

I finished by coloring in the orange and going back around the outline to make it thicker.  Then, I baked the plate at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Now I have a pretty cool and unique serving plate for my Denver Bronco tailgate party!

Monopoly Game Night Serving Dishes

You guys should know by now, that with a new party theme, comes new DIY plates.  For our Hasbro Game Night party, we needed a fun way to serve up the many treats we would be snacking on during the game playing.

What better way than with Monopoly themed serving dishes?

In some ways, these plates were pretty easy to do.  In others, they were a little more complicated than anything I've tried before.

I started out by making myself a template of the Free Parking, Chance, and Reading Railroad designs.  I grabbed the pictures off the internet, added them to my favorite design program and printed them onto card stock.

Then I cut them out and used them as a stencil for each of these plate designs.

The Free Parking plate was a little more difficult since I had the insert pieces in the template.  I thought about cutting out the tire and back window, but was feeling pretty lazy, so I just free handed it.

Then I colored in the question mark, the train, and the car with Sharpie brand markers.  On the Boardwalk and Indiana Avenue plates, I colored the top 1/4 of the plate in a block pattern.  (I did learn the hard way, that it is important to ONLY use Sharpie brand!)

When I was done, I outlined everything in black Sharpie to give it that chunky outline look that Monopoly has.  Then I added the wording to match each of the Monopoly tiles.  It took me a while to get this right, and I'm still not totally fond of my handwriting, but after redoing it several times, I just went with it.

If you find that you mess up too, I learned a pretty cool trick.  Color over your mistake with a dry erase marker and then erase it.  It will erase the Sharpie too!  Pretty useful to know!

When you are all satisfied, bake the plates for 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set the ink.

Now serve up some yummy treats for a great game night party!

Chip the Teacup from Beauty and the Beast

Celebrate your love of Beauty and the Beast by making your own Chip the Teacup decoration.  This DIY project shows you how to make Chip using a thrift store teacup and cheap printable for a fun and unique Beauty and the Beast party decoration.

I am super excited about the Disney Princesses Fundraiser that the girls are putting on next month and how I get to help decorate for it.  There are going to be 16 tables at the dinner and I want to decorate each table as a different movie.  (How fun will that be?!)

For the Beauty and the Beast party table, I wanted to represent each of the characters on the table.  I hope to be able to have Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip.

Since Chip will probably be the easiest of them all, I went shopping at my local Goodwill and found this teacup.  It was almost perfect as it had a gold rim and was the approximate shape of Chip.  It even has a small chip in the side of the rim!

Since Chip's handle was gold and mine was not, I bought some Royal Gold paint from Walmart and painted the rim.  It did take several coats and was a bit tricky around the insides.

While that was drying, I designed up a face and a bottom rim to match Chip's.  It was tricky cutting out the face pieces, but I just gave it a little white berth around the lines and it worked okay.

I ran the eyes and mouth through my Zyron sticker machine to help them stick to the teacup.

If you don't have one, you could always print the face onto sticker paper or even just glue it onto your cup.

To slip the bottom ring on Chip, I cut a slit through the circle and then just slid it around the bottom.

Chip was really pretty easy to make.  You can find the printable HERE.  Depending upon the size of your teacup, you may need to resize.  But it will get you started in decorating your Beauty and the Beast table too!

Lifesaver Candy Tray

This Christmas I saw the most amazing idea of making serving trays with candy mints by Tutto Bella.

Since then, I've been looking for an excuse a reason to make some of these myself.

I thought a Valentine candy party would be the perfect place for these sweet trays.

It took me a couple of tries to get the system just right.  I wanted the lifesavers to melt together, but not be indistinguishable as to what they were.  (I was looking to try and have the "lifesaver" writing on it still visible.)

I found it best to unwrap the lifesavers and place them in your design on a cookie sheet topped with ALUMINUM FOIL (wax paper didn't work for me).

I did have to use my papered chef sheet so that it wouldn't shift around in the oven.  (I guess I have old cookie sheets that are getting warped.)

I baked my tray at 325 degrees for 5 minutes and that seemed about right to get the design and still melt the candies together.

Once they are melted together, take the tray out of the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.

I took my aluminum foil off the cookie sheet so it would cool faster.

When it was done, I sprayed it with a sealer to keep the lifesavers from getting "yucky."

These trays are VERY fragile, so you need to be careful with them.

But they look so cool.

I loved them so much, I decided to make a few coasters out of the lifesaver trays too.

Since they are so fragile, I'm going to run to Home Depot today and get some cork board to put on the back.  Hopefully, that will help them stand a little more use.

In the meantime, I'm going to make a few more of these Lifesaver serving trays since they are just too fun.

Angry Bird Pig House Display

I've spent much of the day (after hubby went to work...am I the only one who gets nothing done when their husband is home?) working on the final projects for my Angry Bird party tomorrow.

It's probably going to be a long night as I finish some of the food and pull everything together, but I did get this Pig House display done at least.

Apparently wood working is NOT one of my talents, so be kind and use your imagination!

It's going to be the home of my Angry Bird pig desserts if all goes well.

Shindig Saturday Weekly Linky Party #13

It seems that I have spent most of my week working on this...

My first sustained craft arts as a child were in Counted Cross Stitch.  I remember watching my mother work hours on these beautiful creations to decorate our home with, so when I became a young woman, I wanted to make them too.  I picked out this fun Care Bear pattern...I remember it was Wish Bear.  I spent hours, and hours, and hours on that bear learning to sew cross stitch.  I never finished him.

I did go on to finish many other projects, but I learned that I didn't have the heart for cross stitch.  I wanted something that would be functional as well as beautiful.  So I found Plastic Canvas.  LOVE IT!  Unfortunately, there aren't near as many great plastic canvas books out there as Cross Stitch, but I've learned to make my own patterns and to adapt ones that are out there.

That's what this train was...an adaptation.  It took me hours to make this train, to adapt it to be able to add pictures to it, and to make it be able to hold small objects.  But it was a labor of love, you see as much as I love my computer and my other crafts, it's nice to have something different sometimes.  Something that for most part, I can just sit and watch TV and sew...not a lot of thinking or stressing involved.

So I sewed ALOT this week, almost every moment.  But I got a lot of TV watching in too.  That's something that I don't really do a lot of.  I like ALOT of shows, but I really don't have time to watch them, not in between projects, kids, after school activities, church responsibilities, and house cleaning. I just don't watch that many.  But this week, I was able to watch a few series that have been on my back burner to check out.  They've been sitting in my DVR for months without having watched...and this week I watched most of them.  (Is that just a little scary or what?)

I have my favorites... Grey's Anatomy, V, Bones, Biggest Loser...and such, but these were some that I like just don't have high on my priority list to catch every week. 

Stargate Universe.  Loved the Stargate series and although this wasn't my favorite, I enjoyed it.  I was a little sad to see it end...seems too many of some good series are ending.

No Ordinary Family.  Never had time to catch this one before...so it was a newbie for me.  But I have enjoyed it overall.  A cute, family show with a lot of super hero silly action.  I love that the son has a super brain as his power.  It's a power that's actually attainable for my 10 year old to dream about.

The Closer.  Love me some Brenda Lee!  It makes me laugh, especially on the Christmas episode, where they can solve a whole murder in just a few hours or days.  Somehow I don't think that's really how it works, but I enjoy it anyway.  Love the way her brain works too, and especially her chocolate cravings!  Now there's a girl I can relate too!

So what are a few of your guilty pleasures?  I'm debating on whether to start a new project now and need some new shows?  Although I admit, my DVR is still packed with too many shows...but hey, I can always use more?  My house still has lots of places for more Tissue boxes!

Dr. Seuss Cupcake Stands

You can't just have any type of cupcake stand when you are having a Dr. Seuss inspired party....

You need to have something just a little, or ALOT, different.

So when working on my Graduation party, I decided to make some fun cupcake stands!

I started with these swirl wood pieces that I found at Jo-Anns in the wood pieces section.

They were 0.29 each.

Then I added these candle holders.

I bought a bag of 6 for 2.99 at Hobby Lobby in the bagged wood section.

I spray painted them in lots of different colors...green, red, yellow, blue....

Then I glued the center of the swirl onto the top of the candle holder.

Now I have a cupcake holder Dr. Seuss would be proud of!
