Young Women Weekly Activity Idea: End of Summer Pool Party
If you haven't heard by now, I've been put in charge of the youngest of the girls in my church group. We have a small group of girls that have a wide range of interests and personalities. So coming up with fun ideas that they will want to come to weeknight church is really my goal and struggle.
Since school is about to start next week, we decided to close summer with a splash and go swimming for our activity this week.
I've been trying to keep the girls updated and excited with what we are doing each week, so I've started sending out "invites" with all the information they will need for each week's activity.
This week, I made some summer beach ball invites.
I used a bowl to cut out circles in white, red, green, and blue. Then, I cut the colored card stock into "pizza slices." I glued the slices onto the white card stock and then used a 3/4 inch hole punch to hide where the slices all met in the middle.
My girls are very much like my kids at home, and are always concerned about food. So I decided to try a new cookie recipe from my Pinterest Cookie recipe board. I went with the Root Beer Float cookies from Chocolate Chocolate and More.
They were really easy to make, but I ended up having to increase the baking time from eight to twelve minutes so they weren't a complete dough ball inside. I'm not sure if that's because of the altitude where I live or something else. So just be aware if you make them too.
I do suggest doubling the frosting recipe too. I barely had enough to frost the cookies that turned out okay. If I had not under cooked the first batch and burned the last batch, I wouldn't have had enough. And that was with barely putting any filling in the cookies, and I like a lot of filling.
The cookies themselves were pretty good. The girls loved them. I felt like I needed a tall glass of anything to drink them down with. They made me very thirsty. I don't think these will make it in to my permanent cookie rotation, but they were fun for the end of school summer celebration.
I felt like I should make at least a "token" try and making our activity something more than just partying and fun. So I found this exercise handout from Little Miss Suzy Q. It was nice that they were already designed and ready to print and add to the dollar store jump ropes I found. (Unfortunatly, I did forget these at home, so I didn't end up giving them to the girls. Sigh.)
The girls ended up having a ball. They all spent a lot of time playing together, which was something I was thrilled with since they all have such different personalities and don't mix all the time. It ended up being a great night and a great way to say goodbye to the end of summer.
Mustache Graduation Party Invitation
I know it seems like the whole world is into mustaches lately. You see them almost every where and on everything. Drama Queen has had this "thing" for mustaches since she was about six. I don't know why or what it is, because no one I know had a mustache at the time, but she would make a mustache out of anything and everything. She would give herself a hair mustache, a french fry mustache, or a milk mustache every chance she got.
So when it came time to think about what kind of theme we wanted for her Graduation party, we knew we needed to have a Mustache party.
Since Drama Queen has so many friends that she wanted to invite, we needed to find a way to order a lot of invitations for not a lot of money.
But have you noticed how anything graduation themed, is like extra super expensive? I don't know why stores think they can charge extra for announcements or invitations just because they have a graduation theme. So we decided to make our own Graduation Party invitations.
I started by designing up an announcement in my favorite Print Master program. I used the blue and green party colors and added a few pictures from her senior photo shoot by Amber Bryson Photography. (If you're in the Utah area, I definitely recommend her! She did an amazing job with the pictures and my daughter LOVED the photo shoot. She had so much fun.)
Once we had the perfect invitation, I saved the picture and exported it onto my phone. I did this easily by emailing it to myself and then opening and saving it on my iPhone.
I have been a customer of Snapfish for many years now and have always been pleased with their services. Right now, they have a promotion that if you download and shop from their snapfish mobile app, you can recieve 100 free prints once a month for an entire year.
We downloaded the app and uploaded the announcement. Then, it came time to purchase. I got 100 pictures for free and only had to pay $9.00 in shipping. That ended up making the invitations only $0.09 each, and that was WAY cheaper than anywhere else so I was super happy.
Our biggest problem with the whole experience is how long the announcements took to get here. They were shipped out relatively quickly via UPS, but then were transfered to the postal system with no updates on the tracking. They ended up taking about two weeks to get here, which wasn't a problem for us, but if you are needing your pictures quickly, you may keep that in mind.
I am really happy with how the graduation party invitations turned out. They were easy to make, easy to print, and now she's having a great time giving them out to any one and everyone she knows.

Divergent Party Invitation Printable
The Divergent movie comes out tomorrow. I'm so excited, but a little worried that it will not live up to the hype. Have you ever felt that way? Book to movies are either wonderful or terrible. Fortunatly, I am pretty easy going when it comes to just enjoying movies and not picking them apart, but I am a little worried.
I'm trying not to think about it and just enjoy the time spent in putting the pre-movie party together with activities for each of the different factions and fun treats for them. If I can just get my kids to stop eating all the desserts, I think we'll be okay and I can finally share with you the final Divergent printable.
After all, you can't attend a Choosing Ceremony without an official invite can you?
Simply download and open it in free Adobe Acrobat. If you don't have Adobe you can get it HERE for free.
Now just hit "PRINT". Cut out the 5x7 inch invitation and Send!
Valentine Candy Party Invitation
I have 2 teenagers in the house with several more that come over on a pretty consistent basis. I LOVE it! I love having a houseful and enjoy the laughter and fun that is here.
So I was trying to come up with a Valentine's party that wasn't "too mushy" and didn't focus on love and couples for the holiday. So I decided to throw a party that was focused not on the heart part of Valentine's, but on the candy and sweet part of it.
So this week's party will be a Candy themed Valentines!
I loved the candy themed invitation we did for our M&M chocolate party last year, so I decided to do another one for this Valentine's party.
The invitation says:
There are many REISENS I want you to be mine for you always make me SNICKER and be JOLLY which makes me BURST with JOY! Join us for MOUNDS of fun. (party information) Say you'll be a SMARTIE and come. CONVERSATIONS welcome at (phone number)
I printed out the invitation card onto cardstock, added my party information and then tied it to a bag of candy with curly ribbon. Inside the bag there are Reisens, Snickers, Jolly Ranchers, Starburst, Almond Joy, Mounds, Smarties, and Conversation hearts.
If you want to have your own Candy themed party, here's the invite free printable!
Angry Bird iPhone Inviation
Trying to make fun and unique invitations is sometimes pretty hard. After all, how many different ways can you say the same things? Probably a lot, but when you are throwing all your energy into the party details, sometimes it's easy to draw a bank when it comes to the invitations.
That's why I'm so excited to have found this iPhone party invitation from The Party Animal. It's such a fun and clever way to share your party details...plus it goes along with the Angry Bird party theme so well!
Go check out all the details and information you need to make your own HERE.
How to make a Severed Finger Halloween Party Invitation
Now this party invitation may be too much if you are inviting small kids to your Halloween party, but it certainly would be super fun for older crowds, especially teens! I wish I could say I thought of it myself or have even done it, but I found it on Martha Stewart's page, so I can't claim it.
But if I were going to get to have a Halloween party this year (Darn moving!) and make a severed finger invitation for a spooky Halloween party, this is how I would do it.
(And promise, I didn't mean to include so many links to Amazon, but they have it all! I know when I'm working on a project, I need someone to tell me EXACTLY where to get the items I need...even down to the exact isle to buy it in. I'm that lost sometimes. So use the links or don't, they are just there for convenience.)

I would start by purchasing this Human Fingers Candy Mold
from Amazon. The mold contains both ways you can make the mold into a sucker and without. To maximize efficiency in candy pouring, I'd tape off the ends where the suckers are so that none of the pieces have sticks.
Now using some NON-WATER based food coloring, I'd pour all the pieces in a flesh colored white chocolate.
Now using some NON-WATER based food coloring, I'd pour all the pieces in a flesh colored white chocolate.
I would also buy this 1/2 Pound Candy Box
while I was shopping at Amazon. (I've seen them at Hobby Lobby and other craft stores, but I think the price at Amazon is pretty good. Plus, it will help get your price up to the $25 free shipping limit.) There are 5 in a package, so plan according to how many guests you need to invite.
Once I've put the box together and the fingers are ready, I would place some Krinkled White Shred
in the base of the box. I'm not sure if Amazon has a good price on this or not, since I usually buy mine from a wholesale supplier and have a ton sitting around for candy bouquets. I know I've seen some at Dollar Tree and Walmart, but if you're still trying to reach the $25 mark for shipping, you might add this to your basket too.
To put my invitation together, I'd take the candy finger and tie a ribbon bow around it. Now I'd place the finger on top of the shred and there's the main part of the invitation.
Now I made these text pieces to add the party information to. You can download them and import them into your favorite graphics program, or just print them out and add your party details. Once they are ready, cut them out and glue to the front of your box.
Now you have a great, unique, and super spooky Halloween party invitation!

Blue and Green Chevron Birthday Invitation
Since my daughter wants to invite some 50 people to her 16th birthday party, we made our invitations as easy as possible. She told me she didn't share my love of anything polka dotted, but instead liked stripes. So I used stripes to make a chevron background in blue and green with pink accents.
Then I used my graphics program to design up 4 to a page in postcard size.
Quick and easy.
Probably the only thing that will be for this party. Hopefully I have a few really fun projects to show you in the next week IF they all come together as I hope. Cross your fingers for me. I'm braving new territory here.
In the meantime, here's a blue and green chevron background free printable for you to use as you need.
Inviting the Team
Despite the fact that my kids don't want my "involvement" in their teen parties, I am still required to provide invitations for this football birthday party. I don't know if I'm the only mom, but I don't let my kids go to parties where there isn't some kind of invitation handed out. I like to be able to know when and where the party is, and more importantly, be able to contact the parent should a problem arrive. Maybe I'm weird that way, but it's how I "roll."
So in coming up with a fun invitation that is quick, easy, and "cool", we designed up these ticket stubs with all the information parents will need to know.
These invites are supposed to look like a ticket you would get to attend a sporting event. We designed it in colors to match the local high school's colors, but can be designed in any color scheme desired. The spaces between each block were used to add the party information and details.
These invites are quick easy and super cool for my teen's birthday. And now we've added them to our online store HERE. Currently we have a limited selection of colors, but will be adding more soon. So if you're interested and don't see the colors you want, let me know!
Back to School Party Invite Printable
I love my children, I really do. I love to be able to spend time with them all summer and do things we normally don't have time to do during the busy school year...but I will totally admit, that when it's time for school to start again...I'm doing the happy dance!
And I'm definitely in the mood to party.
But it has to be done in a fun upbeat way celebrating a new school year and possibilities, or my kids may come to suspect that it's something more.. (evil grin).
I created this fun Back to School party invitation printable. It's designed to look like a piece of notebook paper with some hasty scribbling for a 'last minute' party between friends.
And I wanted to be sure to share it with all MY friends...
Enjoy your party and the quiet, productive, structured, busy, possibilities a new school year brings!
Shout Out Sunday
Here are a few of my favorite party ideas from fellow bloggers...

Moore Minutes threw a Light Up the Dark party where she shared how to make these fun Glowstick Lanterns. I can't get over how COOL and fun these look. What a great idea these would be to line the path to your house or around the table at your party. We are planning one last BIG hoopla before school starts and these will definitely make an appearance at our party.
A Creative Princess shared how she made the Magnetic/Chalkboard Bingo games for her grand kids. I'm so glad that she kept going through the craft mishaps that happen to all of us to make this fun game. This is a great idea for all the summer road trips we go on, or would make a fun party favor for a kids birthday party. You could make it in any theme with the same printables. What a clever idea to magnetize everything, even the chalk! LOVE it!
I'm Topsy Turvy shared this Dr Seuss party invitation for her daughters birthday. I can't say WOW! enough times on this amazing invitation. She wrote and printed this whole invite to look like a Cat in the Hat book with the party information inside the story. With pretty good instructions on how she made this, it doesn't seem like it's for the faint of heart crafter, but if you are looking for an AMAZING invitation, this would be a real hit!
Brassy Apple shared how she made this Angry Birds Game. Although I've never played it myself (but yes, I have it on my phone for my kids), I know how popular Angry Birds are right now and this game would be great to have at a birds themed party. It would also be a fun afternoon activity...with alot of supervision I'm sure. I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue giving my kids slingshots and rocks! I can just see their brother(s) becoming those naughty pigs! But I know they'd have a blast playing this game.
How to Nest for Less showed how she made this Football Wreath. Football has already started in our home. The "Perfectionist" will start high school football this year and has been unofficially practicing since before spring last year. This week we will go into FULL football swing and I admit, I'm READY! As easy and simple (but looks time consuming) as this wreath looks, I am going to spend an afternoon catching up on my Cupcake Wars with this as my project. Can't Wait!
Splish Splash Birthday Invitation
In planning our party, we wanted to invite and encourage excitement for the party by creating a fun invitation...so we decided to make Water Balloon invitations with the information inside the balloon.
To do this, I started by using a plastic lid and cut out a rectangle for the information. I used the plastic so it wouldn't be ruined when it got wet.
But after doing that for the first invitation, I found my hubby had thrown my excess lids away (why do I always have a hundred until I need them?) So I decided to use a cup from the movie theatre. (Is it bad that we have a hundred of these?)
I cut the cup in half...
Then cut it into 3 inch pieces.
Then I cut it into 2 1/2 inch rectangles.
On this plastic, I wrote the party information.
Then I rolled it up into as small a roll as I could get,
and inserted it into the balloon. I had to use a 7 inch balloon so it would be big enough to fit the information. It was a little difficult, but I squeezed it in.
Then, I filled up the balloon with water.
As you can see, the invitation information is floating around inside.
On the front of the balloon, I wrote a little poem ditty so the guests would know what to do with the water balloon. It reads:
Splish Splash
Join us for Zach's 7th
Birthday Bash!
(details inside)
When you write on the balloon, be sure it's dry and to use a permanent marker.
Zach wanted to see how it worked, so we let him pop a balloon as a trial. It worked beautiful, and now he can't wait to spend tomorrow giving out the invitations to all of his friends!
